Batroun Mountains is a family owned and operated winery located in the heart of Batroun District 50 kilometers north of Beirut. It is the uniqueness of Batroun district terroir plus our grape growing practices and winemaking methods that create the exceptional quality of our wines. We believe good wines are primarily made in the field and not in the winery and for that reason all of our wines are produced only from estate grown grapes in order to guarantee and maintain a continued supply of superior quality grapes. Our daily work is a true family affair where every member of our family is involved either in the growing, producing, bottling or marketing of our products. For us, winemaking has been a lifetime passion, a pursuit of the heart, which you will experience when tasting our wines.
Grapes Growing Extraordinary wines can only be made from extraordinary grapes. The grapes are picked very late and only the maturest are selected guaranteeing impeccable quality. Great care is taken to pre-pick the vineyards several times to gather only the best bunches. This selective harvest results in an ultra-premium quality wine. Absolutely no irrigations are used; the vines rely solely on the soil water content from the previous rainy season. All of our vines are grown in well drained soil on narrow terraced vineyards contoured to steep mountainsides. A principal quality factor is our commitment to low yields where strict quantity guidelines are followed. Only an average of 1.2 kg (2.65 lb) of grapes is allowed per vines, a yield limitation matched only by a handful of prestigious Chateaus in France. Lebanon’s western coastal region is blessed with nearly perfect weather conditions for growing grapes. Virtually every year is an exceptional one; with an average year occurring about once every ten years. This commitment to quality consistently provides our winemaker with the best grapes to handcraft exceptional wines of depth and complexity.
We are committed to traditional winemaking which is the gentle process of providing and maintaining ideal conditions so that nature can do its work with minimum interference, i.e. no enzymes, no fining agents and no ultra filtrations are used.
Marketing
Our primary goal is to produce the highest quality wine at the expense of low quantity. Consequently only a limited volume is available for purchase every year. Products are available in the USA and in Lebanon. Pre-orders are encouraged.
